Warlayirti Artists is situated in the Wirrimanu (Balgo) community, at the edge of the Tanami Desert, the Great Sandy Desert, and the Kimberley, 300 kms south of Halls Creek, Western Australia.
The iconic forms, bright palettes, and densely applied paint of Wirrimanu art reflect the cultural diversity and rich traditions of the seven language groups of the area.
Winnifred Nanala is the daughter of renowned Warlayirti artists Tjumpo (dec.)
and Ningie Nanala. She expertly combines her mother’s densely applied dotting
with her father’s strong form. Winnifred paints the country around Wirrimanu, where she spent her childhood playing in waterholes and eating bush foods with her siblings.
